January 26
International Day of Clean Energy
A large part of the anthropogenic greenhouse gases that trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere and significantly contribute to global climate change are produced by the extraction and combustion of fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas). Clean and low-emission energy plays a crucial role in leaving the current world in a state where future generations can grow and prosper safely. This needs to be remembered, and for this reason the UN General Assembly designated January 26 as the International Day of Clean Energy.
One of the modern energy solutions that can replace fossil sources is biomethane produced from biodegradable waste, such as kitchen scraps. It has the same composition as natural gas and can therefore be used in existing gas infrastructure and appliances. However, its production helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and methane leaks from landfills and transforms waste that would otherwise end up unused into a local energy source, thereby increasing the Czech Republic’s energy security.
