July 12th
International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms
Sand and dust storms (SDS) represent a huge and widespread challenge to achieving sustainable development in its economic, social and environmental dimensions. They have become a serious global concern in recent decades due to their significant impacts on the environment, health, agriculture, livelihoods and socio-economic well-being.
The International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms, observed on July 12th, highlights a significant global issue threatening the environment, health, and socio-economic well-being. Sand and dust storms impact 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and are caused by both natural and human factors. The UN calls for international cooperation to mitigate these storms' effects through early warning systems and sharing climate and weather information.
