Donald Watson, the founder of The Vegan Society in England in 1944, was the first person to use the word "vegan". In a recent interview, he discussed his views on veganism, his relationship with animals, and the roots of his ideas that have resonated with millions of people worldwide. Watson's childhood memories on his uncle's farm, where he witnessed the killing of a pig, had a profound impact on him and made him question the treatment of animals. Becoming a vegetarian at the age of 14 and a vegan at 35, Watson believes that humans forcing themselves to be carnivores is against their nature and the rights of animals. He also discusses the challenges of being a vegan in a society that revolves around food and the social aspect of veganism. Watson believes that veganism allows one's conscience to be truly clean and encourages vegetarians to see it as a stepping stone towards veganism. He also acknowledges the importance of direct action in helping animals but cautions that some actions may be counterproductive. Watson's message to vegans is to remember that veganism is about living compassionately and thoughtfully, and that it goes beyond finding alternative recipes or studying nutritional studies. It is about understanding the simple and direct facts and arguments and finding one's own path.

Watson acknowledged the value of direct action in animal rights activism but also recognized the complexity of the issue. He emphasized that vegetarianism is a stepping stone towards veganism and that the ultimate goal is to live compassionately and considerately towards all beings. Watson's greatest achievement in life, he believed, was contributing to the energy that can make the world a better place for all creatures. His message to vegans is to remember that veganism is more than just finding alternatives to animal products; it is about living with compassion and finding one's own path.

Most people believe that the origin of World Jellyfish Day probably comes from a group of enthusiastic marine biologists or simply from those who respect these strange yet beautiful creatures. The largest populations of jellyfish are found in the southern hemisphere in places like Australia and South Africa, where beaches are teeming with these interesting but sometimes dangerous creatures.

How to celebrate World Jellyfish Day
It is clear that commemorating this event can be a bit challenging. It is obvious that you cannot take a jellyfish to dinner or enjoy a day at the spa with it. However, simply traveling to the beach in the hope of spotting one is a fun idea that can be realized if you live near or happen to be by the sea. Try these other ideas to enjoy the celebration of World Jellyfish Day.

Learn fun facts about jellyfish
Enter this day by paying attention to jellyfish and learning more about their lives. Try these fun facts that you can share with friends when reminding them that it is World Jellyfish Day.

- Jellyfish not only do not have bones or a heart, but they also do not have a brain, only a central nervous system. However, this does not prevent them from being intelligent and adapting to their environment.
- Some jellyfish can glow in the dark. Those that have this ability have bioluminescent organs that emit either green or blue light, which is activated by touch. This serves as a defense mechanism to scare away predators.
- One giant species of jellyfish is called the Hair Jelly. The largest one ever recorded was found in a washed-up sea in Massachusetts, USA, in 1870. It had tentacles over 40 meters long.

Visit an aquarium
On this day, when visiting an aquarium, get acquainted with some jellyfish and their marine friends.

With advances in health science, we have learned how including certain elements in our diet can improve our health or be harmful to a long and healthy life. Salt has been a central component of many recipes and cuisines, which has led to heart health issues because a high-sodium diet can lead to high blood pressure in sodium-sensitive individuals. The food we eat contains building blocks that enter our bodies, and just like any construction, if we use low-quality materials, we cannot expect the building to last for ages. There is a common misconception that healthy food must taste bad, but the truth is that healthy food can be some of the most delicious things you put in your mouth. Fresh fruit, spicy low-fat chicken, crispy tasty salads, and countless nuts, seeds, and berries await you to find the time to get to know them. As Eat Healthy Day approaches, why not take the time to explore your diet and reflect on how you eat? Celebrating Eat Healthy Day can be a fun and tasty experience if you dive into it. Overall, you need to take some time to think about what you eat and consider portion control. The problem is often not necessarily what we eat, but simply how much of it we consume. Anything out of balance can become a problem, so today, consider how you can make better choices for your health.

The International Day for the Prevention of Environmental Destruction during Armed Conflicts aims to raise awareness that wars not only harm humans but also the environment. Throughout history, the environment has often been an unacknowledged victim of war, with water wells being polluted, crops burned, forests destroyed, and land poisoned to gain military advantage. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has found that at least 40% of all internal conflicts in the past 60 years have been linked to the exploitation of natural resources, including high-value resources like timber, diamonds, gold, and oil, as well as vital resources like fertile land and water. It has also been found that conflicts related to natural resources are twice as likely to recur. The United Nations attaches great importance to ensuring that environmental measures are part of conflict prevention strategies, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding, as lasting peace cannot exist if the natural resources that sustain livelihoods and ecosystems are destroyed. On May 27, 2016, the UN Environment Assembly adopted resolution UNEP/EA.2/Res.15, which recognized the role of healthy ecosystems and sustainably managed resources in reducing the risk of armed conflicts and reaffirmed its strong commitment to the full implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals set out in General Assembly resolution 70/1, entitled "Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." This International Day takes on new significance for us in light of the war in Ukraine and currently, especially in Palestine/Israel.

Unfortunately, there are many places in the world where these freedoms are not accessible to the majority of people who are forced to live empty and unfulfilling lives so that the rulers of their countries do not imprison them or something worse.

If you do not know what it means to be afraid to express your opinion, then you can consider yourself very lucky to live in a place where freedom is a priority and a basic human right. And like everything good, freedom should be celebrated, and that is what World Freedom Day is about.

Read about World Freedom Day
For many people, it is crazy to think about a world without freedom. Many people have experienced freedom throughout their lives. But for many people, this is not the case, and that is why it is important for us to understand this and find ways to make changes.

History of World Freedom Day
World Freedom Day was created as a reminder of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The date is not so much about the wall itself, but rather about what it symbolized. The fall of this wall meant the end of communism in Central and Eastern Europe.

It was created to celebrate the reunification of loved ones separated by the Iron Curtain and different ideologies, and ultimately serves as recognition that the determination of the masses can push boundaries, break unfavorable resolutions, and ultimately determine the type of leadership they desire to live in a freer and more just society.

The relationship between humans and animals dates back to the history of mankind and beyond. As co-inhabitants of the planet, animals and humans share resources and ideally develop mutually beneficial ways of existence. However, there are times when animals are not treated as they deserve. Human Animal Relationship Awareness Week (HARA) aims to improve human knowledge in order to enhance the lives of animals we all love and need, and to create communities that are more humane and compassionate. HARA works to improve the lives of animals and also to change the way people behave towards them worldwide. The goal of Human Animal Relationship Awareness Week is to raise awareness about the plight of animals, offer education and better resources to build better relationships in the future.

The influence of science on people's everyday lives and its profound social consequences, including ethical and ecological ones, make scientific literacy an essential prerequisite for effective democratic processes. At the World Conference on Science in Budapest, Hungary in July 1999, co-organized by UNESCO and the International Council for Science, many delegates expressed support for greater public awareness of science. Delegations from Ethiopia and Malawi, along with the British Association for the Advancement of Science, proposed the creation of World Science Day or World Science Week.

By fostering closer connections between science and society, World Science Day aims to ensure that citizens are informed about developments in science. It also emphasizes the role of scientists in expanding our understanding of the planet we call home and in creating more sustainable societies.

The goals of World Science Day for Peace and Development (STEM) are:

- Strengthen public awareness of the role of science in peaceful and sustainable societies.
- Promote national and international solidarity for shared science among countries.
- Renew national and international commitment to using science for the benefit of society.
- Highlight the challenges that science faces and increase support for scientific efforts.

For thousands of years, science and technology have played a huge role in shaping the future of humanity. In the future, they will help humanity fight its greatest battle: climate change. While renewable technologies such as solar and wind energy will be crucial in helping us reduce carbon emissions, there are several major obstacles to their integration into electrical grids. One of the main problems is that these technologies are not yet advanced enough to handle power outages caused by natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. Progress in renewable and artificial technologies is expected to help address this. However, for these technologies to become a reality, the public needs to be more aware of their importance.

Individuals and institutions around the world are encouraged to organize events or activities on World Science Day, including government officials, students, media, and schoolchildren. World Science Day for Peace and Development has created many specific projects, programs, and funding for science worldwide.

If you are looking for your own inspiration for STEM, there are many success stories about how volunteers, partners, educators, and students have a positive impact on the world, whether by solving problems through creative innovations or inspiring the next generation through engaging programs.

Vďaka užšiemu prepojeniu vedy so spoločnosťou má Svetový deň vedy za cieľ zabezpečiť, aby boli občania informovaní o vývoji vo vede.

- Obnoviť národný a medzinárodný záväzok využívať vedu v prospech spoločnosti.

The UNESCO Declaration confirms that tolerance is not about indulgence or indifference, but about respecting and appreciating the rich diversity of our world cultures, expressions, and ways of being. Tolerance recognizes universal human rights and the basic freedoms of others. People are naturally diverse, and only tolerance can ensure the survival of mixed communities in every region of the world.

The UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence was established in 1995 on the occasion of the United Nations Year for Tolerance and the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. The prize recognizes significant activities in the scientific, artistic, cultural, or communication fields that promote the spirit of tolerance and non-violence. The creation of the prize was inspired by the ideals of the UNESCO Constitution, which states that if peace is not to fail, it must be founded on the intellectual and moral solidarity of humanity. The prize is awarded every two years on International Day for Tolerance, November 16. It can be awarded to institutions, organizations, or individuals who have made particularly meritorious and effective contributions to tolerance and non-violence.

Tolerancia uznáva univerzálne ľudské práva a základné slobody druhých.

The global action plan to address the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance was approved at the sixty-eighth World Health Assembly in May 2015. One of the key objectives of the plan is to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance through effective communication, education, and training.

Antibiotics are running out for fighting diseases, and one of the main reasons is their use in animal production. New and more resistant bacteria are emerging, and we need to take action or we won't be able to use antibiotics anymore. Every year, 700,000 people die worldwide, and their killers are particularly resistant bacteria that no antibiotics can defeat. According to a recent study, the number of victims could be ten times higher by 2050. In other words, if we don't develop new strong drugs, up to 10 million people will die every year. This document reveals how we got into this deadlock. It's a story of negligence, greed, and shortsightedness that has rendered antibiotics, which used to be a clear difference between life and death, completely ineffective. It's a scientific thriller about disappointed doctors on the front lines, rebellious scientists, patients struggling with deadly diseases, and diplomats searching for a recipe to save the world.

Watch the following documentary, not for the faint-hearted.

Aplikace wwwKAMsNIMcz poskytuje informace o nejbližších veřejných toaletách a zdrojích pitné vody.

When the Sustainable Development Goals Report 2020 was released, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that Goal 6 of sustainable development is off track and hindering progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for human rights and achieving peace and security worldwide. The World Toilet Day exists to inform, engage, and inspire people to take action towards achieving this goal. The United Nations General Assembly declared World Toilet Day as an official UN day in 2013, following a resolution presented by Singapore. Prior to that, World Toilet Day was unofficially established by the World Toilet Organization, a non-governmental organization based in Singapore, in 2001. The official organizer of World Toilet Day is UNWater, which manages the official website of World Toilet Day and selects a special theme for each year. In 2022, the theme is Sanitation and how it protects groundwater. Toilets are important because access to safe and functioning toilets has a positive impact on public health, human dignity, and personal safety, especially for women. Sanitation systems that do not safely treat excreta can lead to the spread of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, dysentery, and schistosomiasis. However, if you have access to a hygienic and safe toilet, you are among the fortunate people in the world. In addition to places to properly sort waste, the website wwwKAMsNIMcz also includes locations where you can find the nearest toilet or drinking water tap.

Aplikácia KAMsNIM.sk navyše poskytuje informácie o najbližších verejných toaletách a pitnej vode.

Darum geht es beim Use Less Stuff Day.

The Use Less Stuff Day was established as part of a campaign to save the environment and the world. It aims to encourage people to reduce their consumption of unnecessary items and to be more mindful of their impact on the planet. Every year, we use tons of plastic bottles and create microplastics that end up in the ocean. Non-governmental organizations are working to raise awareness and promote resource conservation. Celebrating the Use Less Stuff Day can involve using a water filter instead of buying bottled water, brewing your own coffee instead of using disposable cups, and checking for plastic microbeads in personal care products. The goal is to control our resource consumption and make more sustainable choices.

Každý rok používame doslova tuny plastových fliaš, máme mikrokuličky z našich šampónov a pleťových peelingov, ktoré si nájdu cestu do oceánu, premrhávame obrovské množstvo zdrojov, zatiaľ čo pokračujeme v vylepšovaní toho, čo vlastníme, a vyhadzujeme minuloročné modely.

Poďte si do kohútika kúpiť filter a naliať si ju sami do sklenených fľašiek. Obvykle sa ráno zastavíte a dáte si kávu v jednorazovom kelímku. Namiesto toho si ju uvaríte doma a zachrá

Im Jahr 1997 fand das World Forum of Fish Harvesters & Fish Workers in Neu-Delhi statt, was zur Gründung des World Fisheries Forum führte.

In 1997, the World Forum of Fish Harvesters and Fish Workers met in New Delhi, leading to the creation of the World Fisheries Forum with representatives from 18 countries. They signed a declaration advocating for a global mandate of sustainable fishing practices and measures. Fishing, along with aquaculture, provides food, nutrition, and income for approximately 820 million people worldwide. However, one of the biggest threats to the sustainability of global fishery resources is illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) points out that almost 90% of global marine fish populations have been fully exploited, overfished, or depleted to the point where recovery may not be biologically possible. The release of harmful substances, such as plastics and other waste, into water bodies has devastating consequences for aquatic life. Recent research shows that over 50% of plastic waste in the oceans, including the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, consists of fishing nets that hold this plastic island together. The accumulation of waste produced by industrial fishing in the oceans has many negative impacts, including the danger of injury or death to marine animals and the release of microplastic particles. We should not panic, as suggested by this Netflix documentary, but rather take action to address these issues.

V roce 1997 se konalo setkání World Forum of Fish Harvesters amp Fish Workers v New Delhi, které vedlo k vytvoření World Fisheries Forum se zástupci z 18 zemí.

The Fibonacci Day celebrates the sequence discovered by Leonardo of Pisa, also known as Fibonacci, in 1202. The sequence, which is found in nature and art, is closely related to the golden ratio. To celebrate Fibonacci Day, one can learn more about the sequence and its applications, such as creating a Fibonacci sequence by adding the last two numbers. The sequence can be found in various aspects of nature, such as flower petals, pinecones, and snail shells. Additionally, there are higher-order Fibonacci sequences, such as the Tribonacci and Tetranacci sequences. The EKOkalendář project offers more than 240 environmental holidays and tips, including Fibonacci Day, in their electronic calendar.

The Turtle Adoption Day was established in 2011 when Christine Shaw wrote a blog post about adopting turtles. Since then, the day has grown to involve more people in communities around the world. Many different turtle species are endangered and need help for their survival, and various conservation groups are working diligently to assist them. Unlike World Turtle Day, which is celebrated globally on May 23rd, Turtle Adoption Day focuses more locally on turtles in need. It is also about rescuing local turtles that need to be adopted as pets. Sometimes people take a turtle home as a pet for their child and then realize that it is much more work than expected, so they surrender it to an animal shelter. These turtles are then placed for adoption by local individuals and families. Turtle Adoption Day is a reminder that these adorable creatures need help and is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness about them.

How to celebrate Turtle Adoption Day:
Consider some of these ideas to celebrate Turtle Adoption Day:
- Adopt a turtle: Turtles can be pets for many different people. While they require love and care, they are less demanding in some ways than other pets. Start by doing research to find out their needs and how to care for them. Then, if you are still interested, visit a local animal rescue shelter to find out what options they may have for turtle adoption. If there are no turtles available for immediate adoption, it may be possible to have your name put on a waiting list.
- Contribute to turtle conservation: If you are not ready to bring a turtle home as a pet, that's okay. There are many other ways you can get involved in Turtle Adoption Day. For example, knowing that some turtle species are endangered, especially sea turtles, consider making a donation to an organization that helps with turtle conservation. Save the Turtles, Turtle Conservancy, Turtle Foundation, and Turtle Conservation Fund are just some of the organizations that work hard to help turtles live better lives worldwide.

Obchodníci cenu zboží nadsadí a slevu vypočítají z této vyšší částky. Začátky Buy Nothing Day nebyly snadné. V roce 2000 byl některým reklamám Adbusters podporujících Buy Nothing Day odepřen reklamní čas téměř všemi hlavními televizními sítěmi kromě CNN.

The first Buy Nothing Day was organized in Canada in September 1992 as a day to examine the problem of excessive consumption. In 1997, it was moved to the Friday after American Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday, which is one of the ten busiest shopping days not only in the United States.

According to estimates, Czech customers spend about five to six thousand crowns during Black Friday, while the average annual donation for charity projects is around 500 crowns. Czechs have the opportunity to reflect on where they send their money, as evidenced by the amount of 95 million crowns raised for charity projects during Giving Tuesday, compared to the up to seven billion spent on Black Friday.

What started as a day full of discounts has turned into a week or even a month dedicated to shopping and consumption. People buy goods that end up discarded in the back of the closet or even in landfills, often with so-called fake discounts. Every year, the media warns against fake discounts that are typical for Black Friday. According to retailers, discounts can reach up to 80%, but in the Czech market, real discounts only reach about 19%. Retailers inflate the price of goods and calculate the discount from this higher amount.

Instead of unnecessary spending, support organizations like Ukliďme Česko, which not only organizes volunteer clean-ups but also focuses on innovative projects for environmental protection, such as www.KAMsNIM.cz or www.EKOkalendar.cz.

The beginnings of Buy Nothing Day were not easy. In 2000, some advertisements supporting Buy Nothing Day were denied advertising time by almost all major television networks, except for CNN. However, the campaign soon began to appear in the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, the Netherlands, France, Norway, Finland, and now practically all over the world.

And above all, remember that if you don't buy any junk, you don't have to worry about where to put it.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea to encourage people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. It was also created as a counterpoint to Black Friday, aiming to fight against the consumerism associated with it. According to a new study, the average Czech customer spends around 5,000 to 6,000 crowns on Black Friday, while the average annual donation to charitable projects is around 500 crowns. GivingTuesday encourages people to show kindness and generosity by helping others and making a positive impact on the world. There are various ways to get involved, such as donating money to non-profit organizations, giving away unused items to those in need, or becoming a volunteer blood donor. By supporting initiatives like "Ukliďme Česko" (Let's Clean Czechia), which focuses on environmental protection projects, individuals can contribute to building a better world. The message is to prioritize acts of kindness over consumerism and join the collective journey towards a happy ending where good triumphs over consumption.

The Reverse Advent Calendar campaign aims to raise awareness about the unnecessary waste of usable items and to help those in need. Participants are encouraged to donate one unwanted item from their household every day during Advent, with a focus on warm men's clothing, footwear, and winter accessories. The donated items will be distributed to those in need. Collection points for other usable items such as furniture, household appliances, toys, books, non-perishable food, and sports equipment can be found easily using the KAMsNIMcz application. The project is supported by the Charity Pot program of LUSH, a manufacturer and retailer of handmade fresh cosmetics. Please help us spread the word about the Reverse Advent Calendar campaign by sharing on social media. Thank you for your help, not only during Advent, and we wish you all the best for the rest of this year and the next.

Česká republika podepsala úmluvu o mezinárodním obchodu s nebezpečnými chemickými látkami a pesticidy s cílem ochrany lidského zdraví a životního prostředí.

Juni 1999 in New York unterzeichnet.

The Czech Republic signed this convention in New York on June 22, 1999. The goal of the convention is to promote shared responsibility and collective efforts of the contracting parties in international trade of certain hazardous chemicals and pesticides in order to protect human health and the environment from potential damage and contribute to their environmentally friendly use by facilitating the exchange of information about their properties, securing the national decision-making process on their import and export, and disseminating these decisions among the contracting parties. Since Bhopal, the global use of pesticides has more than doubled to over four million tons per year, despite scientific research clearly showing that the use of chemically synthesized pesticides is one of the main reasons for the dramatic decline in pollinating insects, often referred to as the extinction of bees. Most flowering plants worldwide rely on pollinators, including almost all varieties of fruit or vegetable crops. The loss of pollinators therefore has serious consequences for the ecosystems in which they live and also threatens global food production and our future food security. In some countries, the dramatic decline in natural pollinators has created a situation where pollination now has to be done manually, examples include the cultivation of passion fruit in Brazil and almond plantations in China. Biodiversity is not the only victim of pesticide use. Pesticides have significant negative effects on soil, water, and human health. Every year, about 41 million people suffer from the consequences of accidental pesticide poisoning, including those who work in agriculture and residents of surrounding communities. Recent numbers from the World Health Organization (WHO) also show how pesticides play a major role in hundreds of thousands of suicides due to the availability of these highly toxic substances.

Česká republika podpísala túto dohodu v New Yorku 22. júna 1999.

Strata opelovačov má preto vážne dôsledky pre ekosystémy, v ktorých žijú, a zároveň ohrozuje globálnu produkciu potravín a našu budúcu potravinovú bezpečnosť. V niektorých krajinách dramatický úbytok prirodzených opelovačov vytvoril situáciu, keď sa teraz opelenie musí vykonávať ručne, príklady zahŕňajú pestovanie mučenky v Brazílii a tiež mandľové plantáže v Číne.

Biologická rozmanitosť nie je jedinou obeťou používania pesticídov. Pesticídy majú významné negatívne účinky na pôdu, vodu a ľudské zdravie. Každý rok trpí následkami n

Make a Gift Day je den, kdy se lidé povzbuzují k vytvoření ručně vyrobeného dárku pro své blízké. V minulosti byly ručně vyrobené dárky běžné a vyjadřovaly lásku a péči, kterou dárce věnoval příjemci. Make a Gift Day nás vyzývá, abychom se vrátili k této tradici a vytvořili něco osobního a originálního.

Make a Gift Day is a special day dedicated to giving handmade gifts to loved ones. It encourages people to use their skills and creativity to create something unique and personal. The history of Make a Gift Day goes back to a time when handmade gifts were the norm, before factories and electronics took over. The day is a reminder to cherish the thought and effort that goes into making a handmade gift. There are many ways to celebrate Make a Gift Day, such as making a handmade gift, drawing or painting something, sewing or knitting a gift, baking something special, or learning a new crafting skill. No matter what the gift is, the recipient will know how much they are loved. So don't hesitate and make a gift!

Cheetahs are highly skilled and powerful machines designed by Mother Nature to do one job: accelerate faster than a Ferrari, going from 0 to 75 mph in just 3 seconds. This incredible speed is what makes cheetahs the fastest land mammals in the wild. However, their population has drastically decreased, with only 8,000 cheetahs remaining in the wild, making them the most endangered big cat in Africa. In order to raise awareness about these magnificent creatures, International Cheetah Day was established on December 4th. This day is an opportunity to learn more about cheetahs through activities such as watching documentaries, participating in events at local zoos, and reading books about cheetahs. It is also a chance to organize cheetah-themed parties and fundraisers to support organizations like the Cheetah Conservation Fund and the African Wildlife Foundation, which work towards protecting and conserving cheetahs and their habitats. With community involvement and support, we can help slow down the extinction of cheetahs.

On the occasion of International Soil Day, we should realize the importance of soil and its significance. Soil is essential for food production, filtering water, and storing carbon. However, healthy soil is becoming scarce due to deforestation, climate change, and intensive agriculture. One solution is biodynamic farming, which focuses on caring for the soil and using natural methods to increase its fertility. Everyone can contribute to the healthy development of soil by planting flower meadows, practicing green manure, and buying organic food.

The UN Volunteers program coordinates International Volunteer Day on December 5th each year to recognize and support the tireless work of not only UN volunteers but volunteers worldwide. Volunteers dedicate their time and effort every day to ensure the inclusion of those who are often left behind, promote climate action, and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

When people are encouraged to get involved in problem-solving, solutions are more likely to be feasible and sustainable. Volunteers engage communities and build people-centered movements to help build a better and safer future for all of us.

For the generations of tomorrow, we must take responsibility for the changes needed to build a better future now. Encouraging recognition and promotion of volunteering is an important part of creating a more equitable and inclusive future for communities worldwide. Volunteering means giving, sharing, supporting others, and creating a better future for everyone. Help us spread the message and voluntarily join our campaign.

Publish a photo, video, or graphic to show how VolunteerNow is working for our common future. Nominate another person to also sign up as a volunteer for our common future by tagging them with the hashtag #volunteernow.

For example, in our largest volunteer event, "Ukliďme Česko" (Let's Clean Czech Republic), over 200,000 volunteers participated in more than 5,000 clean-up actions this year, cleaning up 1,570 tons of waste. On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, the organizers of the event celebrated its 10th anniversary. The event took place in the traditional date at the beginning of April, specifically on Saturday, April 1, 2022. The date of the international clean-up day this year was September 17th. If you plan to join the growing clean-up movement, you can already sign up at www.UklidmeCesko.cz, where you will find all the necessary information about the 2024 edition, with the main spring date scheduled for Saturday, April 6th.

The International Mountain Day is celebrated annually on December 11th to raise awareness about the importance of mountains and promote sustainable development in mountain areas. Mountains provide essential resources such as water, biodiversity, and energy, but they are also threatened by climate change, overexploitation, and pollution. The theme for the International Mountain Day 2023 is "Restoring Mountain Ecosystems," highlighting the need to protect and restore mountain ecosystems to ensure their resilience and ability to adapt to climate change and other challenges. The day aims to encourage individuals and communities to reduce their carbon footprint and take care of these natural treasures.

Monkey Day is a holiday celebrated in countries such as the United States, Canada, Italy, India, Pakistan, Estonia, the United Kingdom, Colombia, Thailand, and Turkey. It was created and popularized by artists Casey Sorrow and Eric Millikin in 2000. The holiday is a day to learn about and celebrate monkeys, and often includes fundraising for primate-related causes. Monkey Day is also celebrated with costume parties and activities such as competitions for the best monkey costume or the longest time spent acting like a monkey. Other activities include spending the day at the zoo. Monkey Day has gained recognition from organizations such as Greenpeace, National Geographic, and the Smithsonian Institution.

Medzi oslávencom a podporovateľmi Monkey Day patria Jane Goodallová, Greenpeace, National Geographic, National Portrait Gallery v Londýne, Louvre, Metropolitné múzeum umenia a Smithsonian Institution. Monkey Day vytvorili a popularizovali súčasní umelci Casey Sorrow, medzinárodne publikovaný ilustrátor a grafik, a Eric Millikin, okultný umelci a umelci s umelou inteligenciou ocenený Pulitzerovou cenou, a to od roku 2000, keď boli obaja študenti umenia na Michigan State University.

Look for an Evergreen Day byl původně založen Asociací arboristů jako den kdy oceníte krásu těchto stromů mimo hranice pouhého zdobení třpytivými světly a ozdobami.

Look for an Evergreen Day was originally established by the Arborist Association as a day to appreciate the beauty of these trees beyond just decorating them with lights and ornaments. Even in the deep winter, these noble trees maintain their needles and provide a beautiful green and white contrast that is so typical of the season.

Evergreens have played an important role in many societies throughout history, chosen for religious ceremonies due to their seemingly eternal nature even in times of death. But that's not the only place they are represented. Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest were entirely dependent on red cedar in many aspects of their culture. Whether they were making clothing, rope, or building their houses or canoes, red cedar was a vital part of their lives.

Going even further back, most people have heard of how Socrates was forced to drink a cup of hemlock tea. Hemlocks are evergreen plants that are shade-tolerant and have short striped needles. Knowing the difference between evergreens can one day save your life.

The best way to celebrate Evergreen Day is to take a book about local flora and go out to discover all the different types of evergreen plants that grow in your part of the world. There are literally thousands of different varieties, so there are certainly several examples in your area.

It is clear that if you haven't found your tree yet, it should happen. When you understand the difference between Douglas fir and dozens of other available varieties of Christmas trees, you will know which ones will have the most even distribution, which will be the densest, and best adorn your home and how to decorate them.

The Sustainable Development Agenda focuses on people and the planet, supported by human rights and global partnership to lift people out of poverty, hunger, and disease. It is based on global cooperation and solidarity. The International Day of Human Solidarity is a day to celebrate our unity in diversity, remind governments to uphold their commitments to international agreements, raise awareness about the importance of solidarity, and promote discussions on ways to support solidarity for achieving sustainable development goals, including poverty eradication. Solidarity is identified as one of the fundamental values of international relations in the Millennium Declaration, and strengthening international solidarity is necessary in the context of globalization and growing inequality. The concept of solidarity has been defined by the United Nations since its inception, and the organization relies on solidarity to promote peace, human rights, and social and economic development. The World Solidarity Fund was established in 2003 with the aim of eradicating poverty and promoting human and social development in developing countries, particularly among the poorest segments of their populations.

Organizácia Spojených národov spojila ľudí a národy sveta, aby podporovali mier, ľudské práva a sociálny a ekonomický rozvoj.

The common seal is one of the most widespread species of seals. It inhabits coastal waters of the northern hemisphere, from the temperate zone to polar regions. There are five subspecies described based on their distribution. Seals are excellent swimmers and can dive to great depths. They feed on various types of fish, such as herring, cod, and haddock. One interesting fact about the common seal is that the pup loses its newborn fur shortly after birth, allowing it to follow its mother into the water. Despite relatively high population numbers, they are threatened by human activities, such as overfishing, loss of food sources, pollution of coastal waters, global warming, and viral diseases. They are protected by the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Seals, which is part of the Antarctic Treaty System.

South African fur seals, unlike Greenland seals, which are primarily hunted for fur in Canada, are not currently threatened by the melting of icebergs, and their numbers are still sufficient. However, it remains to be seen how long this will remain the case. Fur seals differ from seals in their ear flaps and movement. They use their flippers sideways on land, while seals cannot. The same applies to their movement in water. Seals use their tail flippers and only use their side flippers for steering, while fur seals do the opposite. Fur seals also sleep on land, while seals sleep underwater.

Tuleni používajú chvostové plutvy a bočnými len kormidlujú.

Etwa sechzig solcher Veranstaltungen fanden in 33 Ländern statt.

The chosen date for celebrating World Logic Day, January 14th, corresponds to the death of Kurt Gödel and the birth of Alfred Tarski, two of the most important logicians of the 20th century. The Association Logica Universalis, an informal meta-association promoting logic closely linked to Jean-Yves Béziau, supported the celebration of World Logic Day 2019 by encouraging logicians from around the world to organize independent events on January 14th, 2019. Approximately sixty such events were organized in 33 countries. The success of this informal first World Logic Day was part of the discussions at the 40th General Conference of UNESCO in November 2019, which led to its formal declaration by UNESCO.

In the 21st century, the discipline of logic is particularly relevant for our societies, economies, and sustainability. For example, computer science and information and communication technologies have their roots in logical and algorithmic thinking. In the field of ecology, we need logic more than ever before.

Napríklad informatika a informačné a komunikačné technológie majú korene v logickom a algoritmickom myslení.

Every year around January 15th, Wikipedia fans organize their own parties in their communities to discuss Wikipedia. Typical activities at these events include Wikipedia editors sharing what they did on Wikipedia in the past year, anyone proposing to share information on Wikipedia in the upcoming year, Wikipedia training for newcomers, and socializing.

On January 15, 2001, Wikipedia was founded and edited for the first time. Coincidentally, on the same day, Creative Commons registered its website. Creative Commons developed a free and open copyright system that Wikipedia uses, and Wikipedia is the most enthusiastic community of free media that Creative Commons promotes. Another celebratory event at this time is Public Domain Day, which celebrates the entry of media into the public domain due to the expiration of copyrights at the end of the previous year.

Do not hesitate and celebrate Wikipedia Day. If you want, also celebrate the birthday of Creative Commons. Combine Wikipedia Day, Creative Commons Day, and Public Domain Day into one January celebration of open knowledge and free media.

Anyone can organize a Wikipedia Day event. The tradition is to discuss Wikipedia with a group of other people and have a birthday cake. You don't need any special permission to host a party. Just do it and have fun.

And we are joining the general celebrations by creating previously non-existent records in Czech for individual ECO days from our ECO calendar.

That is why Penguin Awareness Day is such a great opportunity to learn more about them and understand the situation they are in. It could lead to recognition of penguins and even convince you to contribute and help ensure they can continue to live on our planet for another 65 million years. Learn about these birds through documentaries, visit them up close and personal in your local zoo, or contribute to charitable organizations for their protection.

Currently, there are over 18 different known species of penguins, some of which have been on the planet for over 65 million years. They are beloved animals thanks to popular depictions in movies and children's stories, but they are also fascinating birds that have captured the interest of many people around the world.

Penguin Awareness Day helps bring a bit of reality to the portrayal of penguins, which usually comes from animated films. Penguins are often seen as carefree animals that love swimming, take care of their young, and socialize. While this is a fairly accurate depiction of what penguins do daily, it does not show the environment in which penguins live and how it is constantly changing around them.

Penguin Awareness Day is a time for celebration and remembrance of penguins, but if we as a society do not do something to help penguins thrive in the wild in the near future, there may not be any left. Therefore, the main focus of Penguin Awareness Day is to educate people about their situation, learn how climate change has affected them, and also learn about different species and where they live.

Penguins are considered by scientists from institutions around the world to be a barometer of the impacts of human activity on the poles. Increasing awareness about them is therefore seen by many as a way to communicate with people about the impending dangers of climate change. If people see how these birds are affected, they may make changes in their own lives.

Laboratories and scientific institutions around the world began to take an interest in Penguin Awareness Day after 2010. Their main goal is to draw attention to their research related to penguins and generate public interest in their protection.

Penguins are selective eaters. When you live in Antarctica, you have to consume any calories you can find, even if they are shrimp caught in ice during the summer. Penguins need to consume specific types of food to keep their feathers and eggshells healthy. Scientists now say they can take samples from these components to determine the quality of their diet. This is quite a success.

To celebrate Penguin Awareness Day, you can usually visit penguin exhibits at your local zoo. It is a great opportunity to learn more about what they eat, how they interact, and also about the environment in which they live. However, it is also a good opportunity to learn more about how climate change has affected them and what can be done to help their situation.

If you don't have a local zoo nearby, you can celebrate Penguin Awareness Day at home with your children. Documentaries about penguins are a great way to learn more about them. If you have teenage children, but if they are still young and expect something fun and unpredictable for Penguin Awareness Day, you can watch a movie about penguins together, even if it's animated. You can also watch videos on YouTube that talk about penguins and their situation to learn more about this wonderful species.

You can also consider donating to charitable organizations that specifically care for the needs of penguins. For example, the Global Penguin Society conducts conservation work aimed at protecting

Taking a walk outdoors may seem like a natural thing to do without much thought. However, in today's world, with desk jobs and constant screen time, it can be difficult to get outside and move around. The history of outdoor walking dates back to ancient Roman times, where the concept of measuring distance walked by soldiers motivated Leonardo Da Vinci to create one of the first mechanical pedometers. Famous artists and activists like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Mahatma Gandhi all promoted outdoor walking as a form of physical exercise, meditation, and peaceful protest. To celebrate Take a Walk Outdoors Day, one can simply go for a walk, commit to regularly walking outdoors, create a playlist of walking-themed songs, organize a community event, or invest in new walking shoes. The importance of proper footwear for foot care and motivation to walk more are also highlighted.

Mezinárodní den snižování emisí CO2 připomíná význam snižování uhlíkové stopy a motivuje lidi k lepšímu využívání zdrojů. Historie tohoto dne sahá až do roku 1896, kdy vědec Svante Arrhenius poprvé předpověděl skleníkový efekt.

If every person simply puts in a little more effort to reduce their carbon footprint and CO2 emissions, even just a little bit every day, it will help make the world a safer and more sustainable place to live for both current and future generations. The International Day of CO2 Emission Reduction is here to remind and motivate every individual to better utilize the resources we have been given.

The awareness of the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or CO2 has been on scientists' radar for over 100 years. In 1896, a scientist from Sweden named Svante Arrhenius first predicted that changes in carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere could potentially alter the temperature of the Earth's surface through the greenhouse effect. In 1938, a scientist named Guy Callendar stated that the increase in CO2 emissions is related to global warming and climate change. In fact, this also correlated with research conducted as early as 1824 when Joseph Fourier calculated that a planet the size of Earth in its position relative to the Sun should actually be much colder than it was at the time, suggesting that there must be some insulation or blanket that kept the Earth warmer.

As scientists continue to study the impact of the greenhouse effect and the depletion of the ozone layer on the planet, more evidence of global warming has been revealed, including rising sea levels, increased droughts, severe wildfires, declining water supplies, and many more. When the Kyoto Protocol was signed in 1997, it signaled a move in the right direction towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions from industrialized countries. However, it was not enough to slow down the pace sufficiently. Later, when the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015, it legally committed 196 different countries to the goal of limiting global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The aim is to achieve a climate-neutral planet by the mid-21st century. The International Day of CO2 Emission Reduction is here to raise awareness and encourage people worldwide to contribute to environmental care and the planet by reducing their carbon footprint.

On the occasion of the International Day of CO2 Emission Reduction, it is time for everyone to do their part. Consider some of these ways to reduce your negative impact on the Earth: One of the biggest controllable contributors to CO2 emissions is the use of personal vehicles, especially if they are older models that are not environmentally friendly. As part of the celebrations of the International Day of CO2 Emission Reduction, consider alternative ways of commuting to work or grocery shopping. It may require some extra time or additional planning, but it is worth it for the sake of saving the planet.

Klíčení semen ovlivňují tři faktory: vláha, teplota a hloubka výsevu.

Seed sharing can be a great family tradition, gift, and way of recycling. In the Czech Republic, there is a public Facebook group with over 7000 members dedicated to seed sharing and gardening discussions. There are also seed libraries, where people can freely exchange excess seeds from their gardens. These libraries have been growing in popularity, with over 230 of them now in the Czech Republic. The initiative aims to promote the free sharing of seeds and gardening practices, with a focus on organic and chemical-free seeds. The idea has a global impact, as it helps preserve biodiversity and promotes a healthy relationship with the soil. Seed libraries are often located in cafes, libraries, community gardens, and shops. The principle is similar to libraries - what is borrowed should be returned. There are three key factors that affect seed germination: moisture, temperature, and sowing depth. Seeds need moisture to germinate, and soaking them in water can help speed up the process. Soaking should last for one to two days, and the seeds should be completely submerged. However, they should be planted before the sprout emerges from the seed coat.

Sdílenie semien môže byť skvelou rodinnou tradíciou, darom a spôsobom recyklácie. V Českej republike existuje viac ako 230 Semínkovní, kde si ľudia môžu medzi sebou voľne vymieňať semienka zo svojich záhrad. Táto iniciatíva má za cieľ podporovať slobodné zdieľanie semien, domáce pestovanie a prírodné záhradníctvo. Semínka musia byť nechemicky ošetrené a v bio kvalite.

Zebras belong to the equine family and are found only in Africa south of the Sahara. They are divided into three different species based on their appearance and distribution: Grevy's zebra, mountain zebra, and plains zebra. The mountain zebra has two subspecies: Hartmann's zebra and Cape mountain zebra. The plains zebra has five subspecies.

The plains zebra is the most common type of zebra and can be found in grasslands from southern Ethiopia to eastern and southern Africa. They are currently threatened by habitat loss and hunting for their skins and meat.

Grevy's zebra is the largest of the three species and is commonly found in Ethiopia. They have experienced one of the largest range reductions among all African mammals. Their species faces numerous threats, including competition for resources with livestock, poaching for meat and medicinal purposes, and drought.

The mountain zebra originates from southwestern Angola, Namibia, and southwestern Africa. They typically inhabit mountainous areas in these regions, making them highly resilient. The mountain zebra is currently listed as critically endangered and came close to extinction in the 20th century. Similar to the plains zebra, their greatest threats are habitat loss and hunting.

To celebrate International Zebra Day, you can start by spreading information about these amazing animals through sharing some of these fun facts with your family and friends. Another great way to celebrate is by visiting a zoo where zebras are kept. Make International Zebra Day a day to educate yourself and your friends about the efforts to protect these animals and how to help them.

Aplikace do mobilu pomáhá identifikovat výrobky obsahující palmový olej a nabízí alternativy.

Februar 2016 stattfand.

The Day Without Palm Oil follows the successful event called "The Day When We Say No to Products with Palm Oil" which took place on February 1, 2016. This day serves as a reminder of our global responsibility and encourages individuals to live without palm oil for one or more days. Palm oil is found in various food products, cosmetics, and fuels, and its excessive consumption has negative effects on health and the environment. The production of palm oil leads to deforestation, loss of biodiversity, and the release of greenhouse gases. It also threatens the survival of endangered species such as orangutans. The EU regulation requires the labeling of products with specific types of vegetable oil, giving consumers the opportunity to make ethical choices. An app is available to help identify products containing palm oil and find alternatives.

Since then, the Ramsar Convention Secretariat has been providing relevant information and materials to government agencies, non-governmental organizations, conservation organizations, and social groups celebrating World Wetlands Day to help them raise awareness about the value and benefits of wetlands and support their conservation and sustainable use. These activities include various seminars, festivals, announcements of newly designated Ramsar sites, newspaper articles, radio interviews, as well as nature walks and wetland restoration.

Details about World Wetlands Day can be found on the UN website.

Wetlands and Sustainable Development Goals

Healthy wetlands are essential for achieving the following Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, and its target 6.6, which aims to protect and restore water-related ecosystems; Goal 14, which relates to the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development, including its target 14.2, which strives for the sustainable management and protection of marine and coastal ecosystems; and Goal 15, which concerns life on land, and its target 15.1, which seeks to ensure the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services.

In any case, the future of humanity depends on wetlands. Wetlands not only clean and replenish our water, but also provide food, such as fish and rice, which feed billions of people. They also act as a natural sponge against floods and droughts. Wetlands have great biological diversity and play an important role as carbon sinks. Unfortunately, these benefits are not widely known, and wetlands are often seen as wastelands. Since 1900, 64 world wetlands have already disappeared.

The World Pulses Day has a special significance for the goals of sustainable development 1 2 3 5 8 12 13 and 15. Pulses are rich in beneficial substances and overall very beneficial for our health. They contain a lot of proteins, but very little fat. Pulses are naturally gluten-free and contain a lot of iron, zinc, minerals, and B-group vitamins. The cultivation of pulses also has several advantages. The production of 1 kg of pulses consumes 1250 liters of water, which is ten times less than the amount of water needed for 1 kg of beef. Pulses can also be grown in less fertile soil and can withstand semi-arid areas. They increase biodiversity and provide shelter for other species of animals and insects. Pulses have a long shelf life and are a staple in many traditional dishes from around the world, including hummus, falafel, chili con carne, and English breakfast. Even the original Czech cuisine relies on pulses, such as lentil soup or pea porridge.

Obsahujú veľa bielkovín a veľmi málo tuku.

The bonobo chimpanzee, also known as the pygmy chimpanzee, is one of two species in the genus Pan, the other being the common chimpanzee. It is found in Central Africa and primarily feeds on plants, supplemented with small invertebrates and occasionally vertebrates. Bonobos live in social groups with strong social bonds, and sexual behavior plays a significant role in their relationships. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists them as an endangered species. Bonobos are the closest living relatives of humans, sharing 98.7% of their DNA with us. They are found in a small part of the forest in the Democratic Republic of Congo and are critically endangered, with less than 30,000 individuals in the wild. Deforestation and habitat loss due to coltan mining pose a threat to bonobo populations. Coltan is a mineral found in electronics, such as batteries. One simple way to help bonobos is to recycle your electronics, especially mobile phones and laptops. Recycling these devices keeps coltan in circulation and reduces the demand for its extraction from the wild.

Živí sa prevažne rastlinnou stravou a žije vo veľkých skupinách so silnými sociálnymi väzbami.
